Lil baby WAFFLES! First stumbling steps to the titan it was in its heyday. We were taking over from a very popular, very gentle Saturday morning show run by an old friend of mine — who I’d actually gotten into community ratio back in 1996, when I was running a campus-community radio station in Sherbrooke, QC. He was a volunteer’s dad and I gave him a show; he later moved to Kingston and took up with CFRC, and we inherited his spot when he moved again.
Listeners were… not entirely happy with the switch; Tom was gentle-voiced, very calm, and given to playing a lot of jazz and folk. WAFFLES! was… not that. We had the jazzy “Something for Cat” Henry Mancini theme tune, but the station got complaints about how raucous we were for a Saturday morning program.
These might be slow coming, if at all — in many cases I just have the two hours of station archive files, which need to be stitched together, amplified, have the beginnings trimmed and ends faded… it’s a thing.
