I guess Kelsey Grammar had a sketch comedy show back around 2005? And it made me mad for some reason? I don’t know why there are so many zings at Kelsey Grammar in here. I doubt he noticed.

I feel like we’re now in the groove where the cast is well established enough — thanks partially to JR and JIM sharing the writing chores — that you can kind of wind ’em up and watch ’em go in various scenarios, including the super-hero tradition of the alien invasion.

In the early 2000s, D&D jokes were still kind of obscure.
I don’t often laugh out loud when I re-read these — I’m my own worst critic — but this actually got me.
This joke goes back 20 years before this strip was written: Marvel’s Secret Wars, in which mysterious portals start appearing around the world and the super-heroes just WALK INTO THEM. Heroes are constantly walking into portals. How do they even know they’re portals?
And this joke goes back, like 80 years! Orson Welles’ War of the Worlds always bugged me.
